The principle behind a good pillow is that it should provide you enough support to keep your head and neck aligned with your spine while you sleep.  That being said, we don’t always sleep the same way all night. Our body must toss and turn to ensure adequate circulation.  So your choice of pillow should be made depending on how you sleep most of the time.  Our recommendations are below.

For belly sleepers: Choosing a soft pillow will give you adequate support while you sleep.

For back sleepers: A medium fill pillow is recommended for back sleepers.

For side sleepers: A firm pillow is recommended if you sleep on your side.  If you are very narrow in the shoulders you may consider a medium pillow.

We recommend using a pillow protector at all times in addition to your pillowcase because it will add an extra layer of protection between you and your pillow.  This layer of protection will reduce the need to wash your pillow and will extend it’s life immensely.

Upon waking and before going to bed, grab your pillow by opposite corners and punch it to the middle.  Not only does this feel good to your arms and shoulders, it helps to fluff your pillow and to add air to the millions of tiny down plumules and feathers in your pillow for added loft.

If you do need to clean your pillow we suggest using a professional laundering company that understands how to clean down and feather products.  We do not recommend “dry cleaning” as it is typically loaded with chemicals.

If you must wash your pillow due to excess soilage please wash them as follows:

  • Wash only one pillow at a time with lots of water.
  • Use only a pure gentle soap and never use bleach.
  • Use a medium water temperature but never hot so as not to shrink the ticking.
  • Use multiple rinse cycles to ensure no soap is left in the pillow.
  • Use multiple spin cycles to ensure all excess water is removed to lessen the dry time.

When ready to dry:

  • Please dry only one pillow at a time.
  • Use low heat.
  • Please do not rush the drying process.  Using high heat to expedite the process will only make your down and feather brittle which will result in poor performance over time.
  • After each dry cycle, punch the pillow from opposite corners to ensure water is being released from the middle of the pillow.

It’s not always easy to understand the Hutterites in Canada.  They are a quiet lot who, when they need to build a huge barn can do it in a day all while eschewing the need for electricity and outside labor.  But then you’ll see them at Wal Mart in massive dually pickup trucks shopping the aisles.

When the Hutterite colonists arrived in Canada from Europe they brought their famed agricultural lifestyle and have settled in the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta in Western Canada.  Their mostly agricultural lifestyle served them well until land prices were driven up by the oil and gas industry.  Seeking additional revenue sources they realized their prized Lajord White Geese can produce an extremely high quality down that competes worldwide.  So in addition to farming, the addition of cabinet making, granite forming, metal fabrication and...down and feather farming.

The Lajord Hutterite Canadian Goose down is raised "free range" and is a more mature goose than those in other colonies and provides a much heartier down that will last for generations to come.

With a loft of 850 cubic inches per ounce the Canadian Hutterite 850 Loft White Goose Down Duvet is one of our most popular and because it doesn’t have to be imported into North America it is a more cost effective, high-performing duvet than any other.

Have you ever been to a department store and seen the rows of duvets trapped in those unsightly, plasticy containers?

Yeah, ours don't come like that.

Down that is kept in a plastic container like those are breeding grounds for moisture and mould.  They are unsightly, bad for the environment, and most importantly really bad for your health.

That is why we custom make your duvet to order and are then shipped in our breathable compression bag. Our duvets usually ship in two to three weeks and we think it's worth the wait for you to have a duvet that is world-class.

When we receive your order your duvet goes into the pipeline.  We select the ticking that you ordered and then fill it fresh with fully lofted down.  It is only compressed for the trip to your home (where ever that is in the world).  When it arrives you only need to lay it on your bed for a few minutes and it will assume it's full loft.
